SECRETARY GENERAL OF COMMON WEALTH TELECOMMUNICATIONS ORGANIZATION SEEKS PARTNERSHIP WITH NBC

The Secretary General of Common Wealth Telecommunications Organization, Engr. Shola Taylor, paid a courtesy call on the DG, NBC, Mall. Is’haq Modibbo Kawu, to seek partnership with the Commission ahead of the12th Edition of CTO Summit.
The Secretary General, thanked the DG for the warm welcome accorded him and stated that his desire is to see more collaboration between the NBC and the CTO. He said that this 12th edition of CTO will offer an opportunity for the NBC to share Nigeria’s experience on DSO and learn from the experience of other countries. He noted that because of the fast approaching DSO deadline, it is important to give Nigeria a hype vis-à-vis other countries.
 
The CTO Secretary General highlighted the need for a reform regarding signal distribution, wherein broadcasters would start rethinking their expenditures and spend their money on content and not maintenance of their equipments. He further urged the DG to give signal distributors a framework.
 
The Director General in his response gave a brief on the ongoing DSO process and plans to switch over six states, in each of the six geo-political zones. He pointed out that the NBC has started meeting with Governors of the states, to make them understand the need for their state to be part of the process. He stated that once ninety-five percentage coverage is achieved in the FCT, analogue broadcasting will be totally switched off.
The DG thanked Engr. Shola Taylor for coming and expressed his anticipation for a collaborative relationship between NBC and CTO.
