Doctor Saraki At 77: The Riddle Of Gbemisola Saraki’s Governorship Posters

I spent last weekend in Ilorin, and my departure on Monday coincided with the celebration of Dr. Abubakar Olushola Saraki’s 77th birthday. However the main issue was the takeover of Ilorin by posters of Gbemisola Saraki, announcing her plan to be governor of Kwara in 2011. The poster is a makeover edition of the senator: Muslim Hijab plus a new-found stress of Islamic name: RUQAYYA. Well, the standing order in Kwara PDP is that candidates should not come out with posters yet; but she is not just any candidate. Like the early bird which eats the choice worm, Gbemisola Saraki is already off the mark! Will Bukola Saraki hand over to his sister, in the first COMPLETE CONQUEST of a people by one family that Africa has ever known?  What is the role of Dr. Saraki, the father, in the unfolding scenario in Kwara? These hazy issues will become clearer in the weeks ahead. A Happy Birthday, Wazirin Ilorin.
