Today, Tuesday 5th December, 2017, The Director General of Nigeria Governors Forum, Mr. Asishana Okauru led a delegation of the NGF Secretariat and the Management team of the Treasury & Financial Support Services Ltd to discuss a possible collaboration as the TFS Ltd was working with the NGF in a proposal to assist in the collection of television/radio license levies on behalf of local governments in Nigeria.
The Director General NBC, Mall. Ishaq Modibbo Kawu while welcoming the team explained briefly the technology to be deployed in collecting the annual digital access fee (DAF) in the digital era which he said is embedded in the set – top boxes to be deployed in over 40 million television viewing homes in the Nigeria. He added that this technology is paid for by government and is for the benefit of Nigerians as it provides a seamless collection platform that will aid development at the local government level.
The Managing Director, Treasury & Financial Support Services Ltd, Dr. Esegbue, who informed the DG, NBC, that the company is also consulting for the NGF in collection of several other fees across different platforms and interfacing with two other regulatory agencies, explained that they were in the Commission to seek possible collaboration and partnership in the Digital Television ecosystem. Dr. Esegbue, added that from the presentations and the discussions, there are no conflicts, rather he believes, his organization would be complimenting the NBC in the work it is currently doing for the DSO.
In conclusion, the DG, NBC, informed them that the Commission will look into the proposal when submitted with a view to seeing how the organizations can work together for the common good of Nigerians.
