Attahiru Jega: One Positive Step From Jonathan Goodluck

It is testimony to Professor Attahiru Jega’s standing in Nigerian society, that there has been a very positive response to his appointment as the new Chairman of INEC. I think this is one commendably positive step from President Jonathan Goodluck. Jega taught me at the Bayero University in Kano during my Masters in Political Science program; as well as supervising the thesis I wrote for the course. You can’t work with a better lecturer if you are a serious student : I worked on hegemonic media theories and the labour movement in Nigeria’s Second Republic and he helped with very remarkable insights.  INEC is akin to a poisoned chalice of the Nigerian political space, but for too long we have longed for a responsible patriot to head the institution; now we have our man! Good luck sir!
