Welcoming participants to the workshop, the DG,NBC, Mall. Is’haq Modibbo Kawu stated that he was delighted to be at the DSO workshop for staff of the Commission. He noted that training was very vital and as regulators, we need to let people understand the process we are involved in.
Mall. Modibbo Kawu noted that Digital Broadcasting is a new innovation in a very fundamental sense and it is the duty of the NBC to be at the top. According to the DG, the DSO process allows us to exploit technology better for Broadcasting.
He also noted that the digital switch over will offer opportunities for young people to become content creators or producers because as we develop digital Broadcasting there will be need for more content and new channels.
The DG,NBC, stated that 70% of content in Nigerian TV must be local content and as a result of this, there will be new generations of Nigerian content producers to enable them develop programs that will fill the Nigeria TV in the digital era.
Mall. Is’haq Modibbo Kawu added that the NBC was looking at the possibility of how advertisement can help to drive television and content. He stressed that the work the Commission was doing for the DSO had so many components and when the technical elements is completed which is the beginning of the most central part of the project, we will think of how to get content for television viewers.
In conclusion, he noted that staff of the Commission are a vital part of this huge national and historic process, so they should be better information managers to better communicate with the public.
