Dr. Is’haq Modibbo Kawu, the former Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), has expressed profound gratitude to his supporters after being discharged and acquitted by the Federal High Court in Abuja. The court dismissed a three-count charge against him, bringing an end to a six-year legal battle that began in 2019.

In a heartfelt statement titled “A Note of Gratitude to Compatriots,”vDr. Kawu, a seasoned journalist and Fellow of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (FNGE), thanked the multitude of well-wishers who reached out to him following the court’s verdict. He described being overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from acquaintances, associates, friends, family, professional colleagues, and sympathizers from across the globe.

“From the moment the judgment was issued, I have been inundated with calls and messages,” Dr. Kawu said. “I kept sleepless nights endeavoring to reply to messages or return calls. Many of the messages of support came from distinguished compatriots on various social media platforms.”

Dr. Kawu acknowledged that it was nearly impossible to respond to each message individually but emphasized how deeply humbled he was by the overwhelming show of solidarity. “I was truly humbled by the incredible outpouring of happiness and support from everyone,” he stated. “I want to express my profound gratitude to you all.”

The former NBC boss also used the opportunity to extend his best wishes as the Muslim holy month of Ramadan commenced. “As we begin this holy month of Ramadan, my prayer is to Allah to reward our devotion and sacrifices in the holy month and beyond. Aamin,” he said.

Dr. Kawu concluded his message by thanking his supporters for their “brotherly and sisterly acts of kindness” and wished them well. “Thank you very much for your kindness. My best wishes today and always,” he added.

The case, which spanned six years, had drawn significant attention due to Dr. Kawu’s prominent role in Nigeria’s media landscape. His acquittal has been celebrated by many who viewed the legal battle as a prolonged ordeal. Dr. Kawu’s message of gratitude reflects not only his relief at the conclusion of the case but also his appreciation for the unwavering support he received throughout the challenging period.

As the nation enters Ramadan, Dr. Kawu’s words resonate as a reminder of the importance of unity, faith, and resilience in the face of adversity.
